The 11th day of the eighth month is a good time to remember the importance of calling 811 before beginning any digging project, suggests the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission and the South Dakota One Call Board. August 11, 8/11, is National 811 Day, a designation intended to help spread the message to call 811 before you dig.

June 27, 2012 - PUC proposes recommendations for grain buyer legislation
The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission today announced a plan that the agency will pursue during the 2013 legislative session to update grain buyer statutes. The proposal would, through state law, give the PUC additional tools to detect deteriorating financial conditions among grain buyers the agency currently licenses and inspects.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission today approved a reduced rate increase of 5.12 percent for Xcel Energy. The company sought an increase of 9.28 percent, or $14.6 million in additional annual revenue. The commission's decision trimmed more than $6.5 million in additional annual revenue from Xcel Energy's initial request. The rate will become effective Aug. 1, 2012. ... (read more)

February 10, 2012 - PUC warns of deceitful billing scheme
South Dakota businesses are being targeted in a billing scheme by an out-of-state company that attempts to elicit payment for telecommunications services and/or products that have not been ordered or received, warns the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission. Businesses have reported receiving a document that appears to be an invoice for "telecom maintenance agreement" from an unfamiliar company. ... (read more)
