Wind energy meetings scheduled in Todd and Hand counties
PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission will hold informational meetings on the Rosebud Indian Reservation and in Miller this month to discuss wind energy development.
The PUC and the Rosebud Tribal Utilities Commission will host a meeting Tuesday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at the Rosebud Casino. PUC Commissioners Dusty Johnson, Gary Hanson and Steve Kolbeck and Rosebud TUC Chairman O.J. Semans are scheduled to speak. TUC Commissioners Tim Cournoyer, John C. Arcoren and Ronald L. Neiss are also expected to attend. The Rosebud Casino is located on U.S. Highway 83 near the South Dakota-Nebraska border.
The meeting in Miller will be held Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at the Miller High School Theater, 623 E. Fourth St. Commissioners Johnson, Hanson and Kolbeck will present information. On Hand Economic Development of Miller is helping coordinate the meeting.
The opportunities and obstacles of wind energy development will be discussed at the meetings. PUC commissioners will be available to answer questions regarding landowners' responsibilities, liabilities and other issues.
Wind energy developers with area projects in various stages of research and development have been invited. Landowners, public officials and others interested in wind energy development are encouraged to attend the forums.
