PUC emphasizes energy efficiency at Sioux Empire and Brown County Fairs

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioners Bob Sahr, Dusty Johnson and Gary Hanson will present energy efficiency tips to fairgoers at the Sioux Empire Fair, Saturday, Aug. 12 and the Brown County Fair, Thursday, Aug. 17.

The Sioux Empire Fair presentation will be held at 2 p.m. on the Front Porch Stage at the W.H. Lyons Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Representatives from MidAmerican Energy, NorthWestern Energy and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives will join the commissioners for the presentation.

The Brown County fair presentation will begin at 3 p.m. in Ken's Family Tent at the Brown County Fairgrounds in Aberdeen. Representatives from NorthWestern Energy and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives will also be part of the presentation.

Presenters will offer tips on energy efficient lighting, water heating, home insulating, home construction, appliance operation and selection, and space heating and cooling.

Those attending the presentation will have a chance to receive energy efficient prizes for their home. Packages of compact fluorescent light bulbs, donated by the energy companies, will be randomly given away at each event.

PUC commissioners and staff will distribute information and answer questions at a booth throughout the Sioux Empire Fair, Aug. 8-13, and the Brown County Fair, Aug. 15-20.
