November 1, 2013 - PUC OKs rate increase for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission this week approved an agreement to allow Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. to revise rates for natural gas service to generate nearly $900,000 in additional annual revenue. The commission also approved the consolidation of the company's two South Dakota service and rate areas, known as the Black Hills area and the East River area, into one. September 18, 2013 - South Dakota PUC approves agreements for Black Hills Power rate increase

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved a rate increase for Black Hills Power that trimmed nearly $5 million in annual revenues from the company's original request. A typical residential customer will experience a 5.7 percent increase in their electric rates beginning on Oct. 1, 2013, as a result. ... (read more)

April 12, 2013 - PUC scales back Xcel Energy rate increase request
The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission this week agreed to grant Xcel Energy a 6.86 percent increase in base rates. The new rates, plus a 2.2 percent increase associated with a new infrastructure rider, will go into effect for Xcel customers on May 1, 2013. The overall increase for customers in 2013 is approximately 9.06 percent, less than the 11.53 percent the company initially sought. ... (read more)

March 11, 2013 - New protections for farmers selling grain
Throughout 2012, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission worked with producer and grain buyer groups to develop legislation providing the PUC better tools for evaluating the financial soundness of grain buyers and warehouses in the state. That effort became HB1017 which received great bipartisan support in the legislature, has been signed into law by Gov. Dennis Daugaard, and becomes effective April 1, 2013. ... (read more)

Chris Nelson and Kristie Fiegen took the oath of office today to officially begin their terms as newly-elected South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioners. The commissioners were sworn in at a noon ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in the Senate Chamber of the State Capitol in Pierre.
