Public Utilities Commission warns of
possible Do-Not-Call violations

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has received several complaints from consumers who are receiving telemarketing calls despite being listed on the South Dakota Do-Not-Call Registry. The calls reportedly contain sales information for satellite television service.

The PUC advises consumers on the Do-Not-Call Registry who receive these telemarketing calls to record the date and time of the call; the telephone number from which the call is generated, as indicated by caller ID; and the name of the business placing the call. The information, as well as the consumer's name and telephone number, should be reported to the PUC by e-mail at PUCConsumerInfo@state.sd.us, or U.S. mail at PUC, 500 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, SD 57501-5070

The PUC is investigating all complaints.

To register a number on the Do-Not-Call registry, call 1-888-382-1222 from the residential telephone or personal cell phone you wish to have placed on the registry. You may also register at www.DoNotCall.gov. To learn more, visit www.puc.sd.gov and click on the SD Do-Not-Call Program link.
