Black Hills
Erupting from South Dakota's rolling prairies are the legendary Black Hills. The mountains and forests of the Black Hills include a treasury of six national parks, more than 100 miles of National Scenic Byways, acclaimed recreational trails, Old West landmarks, watchable wildlife, shopping and 70 fun-filled family attractions. MONUMENTAL MARC 2011 includes visits to two of the Black Hills' crown jewels: Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Custer State Park.
As part of the regular conference agenda, MARC registrants will tour Mount Rushmore National Memorial on Tuesday, June 7, and enjoy an afternoon ice cream social beneath the four faces of freedom. After ample time to stroll the Presidential Trail, snap a photograph along the Avenue of Flags and learning more about George, Tom, Teddy and Abe in the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center, the MARC tour heads south to Custer State Park. Once there, MARC registrants will enjoy a down-home buffalo burger cookout at the State Game Lodge Pavilion. The State Game Lodge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was once known as the Summer White House to President Coolidge.
