4:00 Prairie Winds project at Chamberlain, South Dakota (on your own) Prairie Winds, which will be dedicated on November 3rd, is the first commercial wind project in South Dakota. The 2.6-megawatt wind project will consist of two turbines that will generate enough electricity to serve about 600 homes. The project is approximately a $3 million investment in new generation for this region. Directions: Take Highway 34 east out of Pierre to Lee’s Corner near Fort Thompson. At Lee’s Corner turn south on Highway 50 toward Chamberlain. The turbines are visible from the Highway north of Chamberlain.
