Kolbeck gains regional leadership position

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Steve Kolbeck was recently appointed to the leadership of a regional regulatory group.

Commissioner Bob Anthony of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, who serves as president of the Mid-America Regulatory Conference, selected Kolbeck to serve as that organization's secretary. MARC is made up of regulatory commissioners from 15 states: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

"I have come to value my membership in MARC since being elected to the PUC in 2006," said Kolbeck. "MARC provides a mechanism for commissioners in the region to exchange ideas about their states' common challenges and unique situations. I am pleased to join the slate of very capable officers in guiding the direction of MARC over the next few years," he concluded.

Kolbeck will progress through the levels of leadership and is expected to serve as MARC president for the 2010-2011 term.

MARC was formed in 1956 and sponsors an annual conference open to the public. The 2011 annual conference is being planned for South Dakota during Kolbeck's term as president.
